Session Description: Clinical decisions rules are prevalent in emergency medicine. However, many are not clinically useful, misapplied, or do not perform better than physician gestalt. This session will utilize clinical scenarios to highlight 3 popular clinical decision rules in pediatric emergency medicine that will inform clinicians’ approaches to pediatric trauma, infant fever, and non-accidental trauma.
Learning Objectives:
-Determine the appropriate clinical scenarios for application of clinical decision rules to patients with fever, trauma, and non-accidental trauma
-Describe the limitations of the clinical decision rules
-Develop an algorithm for applying the results of the clinical decision rule to patients
