Session Description: Evaluating the dizzy patient for possible central cause can be challenging even for the most seasoned physician. Historical elements as well as advanced imaging tools such as CT have a limited role in evaluating patients with dizziness. The HINTS exam has been created as a diagnostic tool to delineate central versus peripheral cause of dizziness. Recently several guidelines have been released evaluating the HINTS exam with somewhat discordant conclusions. This talk will walk through the literature and discuss how to consolidate the difference between these guidelines for the front line physician.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss the evidence around using HINTS for evaluating dizziness
Describe the pitfalls when using HINTS
Discuss what role HINTS has for the front line physician
